Medical Student Essay Competition 2010


The winner will receive a prize of £750 for an essay on an aspect of chronic pain, of not more than 3000 words. The winning entry MUST be presented at the Pain Relief Foundation in November 2010.


CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS 31st July 2010.

Rules:

  1. The essay must not be more than 3000 words. Entries of more than 3000 words will be disqualified. Please note this is an ESSAY competition and a well written, original essay is likely to be highly regarded by the judging panel.

  2. The essay topic must be about an aspect of chronic pain.

  3. The entry must be word processed and well presented. Please provide a title page with your name and Medical School and put the title only on the first page of the essay but DO NOT add your name, medical school or any other identifiers to ANY of the actual essay pages. If we receive the essay with these identifiers it will be returned to you for modification and you may then miss the deadline.

  4. Entries must be accompanied by a signed entry form sent by post.  Essays received without a signed entry form, either by post or email, will be discarded.

  5. Entry forms or essays sent by fax. will not be accepted.

  6. Essays may be submitted as hard copy by post or as an attached  Microsoft Word document by email to mm27@liv.ac.uk  Please indicate on the entry form.

  7. The entry, both entry form and essay, must reach the Pain Relief Foundation by 31 July 2010. Any late entries will be excluded. No allowance will be made for postage or email failures etc. You will be notified of receipt of your entry.

  8. The competition is open to medical students only, studying at a UK Medical School.  Single author entries ONLY will be accepted.

  9. You must be available to present your essay to the Foundation in November 2010. If the winner is not available the prize will pass to the next best entrant who is available to present. Reasonable travel expenses in the UK and accommodation costs for one night will be reimbursed by the Foundation.

  10. Members or relatives of staff or associates of the Pain Relief Foundation are excluded from the competition.

  11. Any suspicion of plagiarism will result in disqualification.

  12. You will be notified of the results of the competition by 1st October 2010 by email.

  13. The judges decision is final for all aspects of the competition.
